Duty of Care and Safeguarding | School leadership, educators, coaching staff |
This practical case-study-based half-day workshop focuses on developing a strategic approach to duty of care including prevention of harm and responding to harm. Topics include:
|
Grooming | Practitioners and educators |
Understanding grooming and its impact on children includes:
|
Grooming | Parents | “Predator-proofing our children.” Helping parents to understand in-person and online grooming, how it can occur, how to spot it, the link between grooming and sexting, the impact on children, and what to do if your child is being groomed. |
Grooming | Children | Explaining online and in-person grooming to children: how it can occur, what it looks like, why someone might groom you, what it feels like, and the link between grooming, sexting, and sextortion. Top tips to keep you and your friends safer. |
Sexting and Sextortion | Separate workshops for children, parents, and educators | Educating children, parents, and educators about the law around sexting and sextortion, how to prevent harm, and what to do if it occurs. Can be a standalone workshop or part of a grooming workshop or workshop on exposure to pornography. |
Online Safety for Children | Educators, parents, and caregivers | “Down the Rabbit Hole”: Navigating the challenges of our children’s online world. Includes major harms like cyberbullying, gaming and gambling, online grooming, sexting, sextortion, exposure to pornography, and the combined challenges of depression, loneliness, self-harm, and suicide. Includes prevention and responses. |
Online Safety for Children | Children | “Down the Rabbit Hole” is adapted for children in primary (grades 4–7) or high schools. |
Exposure to Pornography | Practitioners, school management, and educators | Based on the book “South African Children and Pornography,” this talk uses stories and stats to focus on the prevalence of children’s exposure to pornography, its evolution, how it impacts children’s brains, behaviour, and relationships, triggers, prevention, and how to respond if children are viewing pornography. |
Exposure to Pornography | Parents and caregivers | A parent-focused version of the above workshop, emphasizing prevention, talking to children about sex and pornography in age-appropriate ways, and what to do if children are exposed to or watching pornography. |
Exposure to Pornography | Children | Kid-friendly versions of the parent and teacher talks focused on grades 4–7 or high school. Includes a showing of Josh Ramsey’s story about pornography addiction and “Brain, Heart, World” by Fight the New Drug. VIEW BROCHURE |
Child Protection Legislation | Practitioners and educators | Practical application of child protection and education legislation, including the age of consent for medical procedures, age of criminal capacity, and dealing with abuse, grooming, or sexual assault by an adult. Covers processes for harmful sexual behaviours and reporting. |
Kindness and Empathy | Children of all ages | “Kindness for Kids”: Emphasizing the importance of kindness, addressing unkindness (cyberbullying, trash talk, etc.), and teaching children how to be compassionate. |
